Paydays and Fines
To encourage positive behavior, we will begin the year with a monetary system. We will begin the year with a discussion about our 'jobs' in the classroom. The students and I will discuss what my duties include as the teacher as well as their job as students. We will record our expectations for both and hold each other to them. Students will receive 3 dollars each day as a salary for completing their job. However, students may also be fined for not doing their job as well as receive bonuses for going above and beyond their responsibilities.
One of our classroom helpers each week will be our "Class Accountant". This student will collect the money at the end of the day and ensure they record their amount in their assignment notebook. Students will have an opportunity to use their money throughout the year for different activities. Some examples may include a class prize for those who have made their behavior goal.
I would encourage you to look in the students assignment notebooks each evening and discuss their daily salary. Maybe have a discussion as to why they were fined and what they can do to ensure better behavior as well as what they may have done to receive a bonus for the day.

Consequences of Fines:
1 fine - 5 minutes of walking at recess
2 fines - 10 minutes (total) of walking at recess
3 fines (bankrupt) -- a note will go home with a reflection by student of how they can improve behavior for the next day to avoid fines.
2 or more bankruptcies in a week will result in a phone call home.
